Retired from the French secret service, Armand Eme is a dandy nearing age 70. A stylish dresser, he sports the same musk cologne he has been wearing for the last forty years. Its powers of virile seduction reassure him. One day, he opens the package to find the shape of the bottle has changed and his mistress of the moment points out that the scent, too, is different. After investigation, he discovers that the traditional parfumerie in Grasse has been taken over by a multi-national firm keen on cutting costs, and that a synthetic product has replaced the real thing. Incensed, he buys all the old bottles still to be found on the market, and rations his daily use. But will it be enough to last till the end of his days? The art of seduction and the horror of growing old are treated with detached style, cool humor and perfectly controlled extravagance.
