Smart, funny, and endearing, Ouf! is a story about friendship, relationships, and coming to grips with whatever life brings to you. The narrator is Jeanne, a cynical yet self-aware divorcée living with her twin adolescent children in Montreal. Surrounded by friends who share her combination of professional success and romantic chaos, Jeanne is adjusting to single life since her husband left her for a younger woman.
Never losing her sense of humor, Jeanne describes the birth of her ex-husband’s first son by his new wife, the revelation that her best friend has been cheating on her husband for decades and never told her, and her son’s decision to move to India. Things improve, however, when she meets Rachid, a successful doctor who appears to be nothing but perfect. The only thing wrong, in fact, is that Jeanne is not ready to have everything she wants in a man. She is too afraid of losing it all.
By the end of the story, Jeanne has a better idea of who she is and what she wants. Ouf! is a story for today’s modern women who aren’t looking for perfection in life, simply satisfaction with who they are.
