Description
In this fascinating, unique and well-documented guide, prominent French historian Philippe Delorme offers an introduction to the atypical journeys of some of the world’s great radical religious leaders. Beginning with Joseph Smith, originator of Mormonism, and ending with Gabriele Wittek, founder of the present-day Universal Life Movement, the book chronicles the work of such self-proclaimed prophets as Auguste Comte, originator of French Socialism, Simon Kimbangu, founder of the Belgian Congo’s Church of Christ and Jiddu Krishnamurti, former theosophist and anti-dogmatic preacher of self-reliance. Emphasizing their self-conviction, as well as the real facts about these leaders’ flamboyant and sometimes tragic lives, the author encourages readers to view them less as marginal figures and more as courageous pioneers who sacrificed their lives in order to guide us toward new spiritual paths.
