Description

The President of Senegal talks about his youth, his struggle for democracy, and his dreams for Africa.

Through extensive interviews with two prominent journalists expert in African affairs, President Abdoulaye Wade tells his life story. Starting with his Senegalese childhood, he goes on to recall his studies in France, his marriage to a French woman, and his political awakening. He then speaks of the challenges he faces today: modernizing education, encouraging freedom of the press, promoting the advancement of women, and extricating the African people from chronic poverty. As one of the principle advocates for the idea of building a United States of Africa, he shares his vision of pushing the continent out of a state of dependence and into the global economy.
